The United Nations Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty surveyed the international community to shine a light on children (those under 18 years old) undergoing detainment in some form. Manfred Nowak, who led the research, summarized the study, evincing insights on girls in conflict with the law, and presented them on January 14. The work of Nowak, his research team, and respondents across the globe paints a picture of an international community struggling to fulfill the potential of its youth, with far too many children denied their childhood.
